I’m an engineer mostly. But although being technical in my primary call, I always had a need for complementary, artistic expression, either through music, or more recently, through painting.

In my early endeavors in drawing and illustration, I often had an inner struggle trying to give up some control, be more loose, but end up with a bit more precision and detail than I wished for. Discovering watercolor provided a fresh take on this struggle – it’s a medium that works best when you learn to delegate control to the water and color itself. So, besides providing calmness, this process also became a challenge and excitement for me – learning to let go.

So, on a deeper sense, painting is all about dualities for me. A battle and unity of light and dark, soft and sharp, cold and warm – and the way these opposites give meaning to each other. An imitation of life, kind of an obvious for capturing a still image of it, but in more meanings than what meets the eye.
